‘Healthy Mind, Healthy Life’ is a nature-based women's wellness program run by two qualified and experienced facilitators, Chelle Fisher and Kay Phillips.
Chelle and Kay work in conjunction with counsellors, therapists, psychologists, doctors and health professionals delivering a service that is available to women of all backgrounds.
Whether they are just finding themselves feeling a little bit lost or are suffering with one of the many mental health issues facing women today, a Wyld Womyn’s Hiking Adventure is exactly what doctors are prescribing - time in nature and, as John Muir famously quotes, “It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”
Science now shows us that spending time in nature regularly, while not a remedy for mental health, is an essential component of health and psychological resilience. Nature helps us withstand and recover from life’s challenges. Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits, especially in brain function, in both the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition.
Humans crave a connection with nature. From gardening and horticulture to taking a stroll through the park or hiking through the mountains, humans have found solace in nature for centuries. But with a rapidly deteriorating environment, shortage of open spaces, fear of “stranger danger” during outdoor playtime, and an emerging culture of technology obsession, our life is punctuated by nature deprivation and a disconnect from the world around us.
Nature provides us with the ability to heal ourselves. Hiking enhances our state of mind: it’s grounding, it’s emotionally restorative. Nature can help to calm, soothe and return us to a natural state of relaxation, which in turn has positive physical effects, such as effectively managing stress and easing anxiety levels - and the benefits don’t stop there. Forests gratify the five senses by providing the sounds of birds, cool air, green leaves, the touch of trees, wild plants and grasses.
The evidence suggests that women are more prone than men to experience poor mental health, and there is overwhelming proof that nature promotes health and wellbeing, prevents diseases and helps people recover from illness. The Healthy Mind, Healthy Life program has been designed to fully support, nurture and nourish women, in a fun and safe environment, who need to escape from their anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, suicidal thoughts, addiction or many other forms of mental health problems, as well as those women whose overall mindset has taken a bit of a dive.
Drawing from the latest medical research, new developments in the field of nature connection and ancient traditions of movement, mindfulness and wellness promotion, the program focuses on:
- Educating women on the 7 Principles of Life
