Perth & Surrounds

Perth lies on the stunning Western Australian coastline, near the mouth of the Swan River, with the Perth Hills to the east. The city has evolved with respect for the natural environment, encompassing numerous green spaces, including one of the world's largest inner city parks - the 400 hectare Kings Park & Botanic Garden.

Discover amazing landscapes, stunning beaches and unique wildlife in these fascinating destinations around Perth. Enjoy the beach lifestyle, relax in natural bushland, sample world-class local wines and watch an ocean sunset within just 30 minutes of the city.

Kings Park is worth exploring for its vast areas of natural bushland and cultivated gardens. There are a number of walk and bike trails for all fitness levels, and great views over the city too. Look out for the outdoor concerts and movies.

Just south of the city is Araluen Botanic Gardens - a must-see if you enjoy strolling through varieties of plants in a beautifully cared for environment. During spring, travel a little way north of the city to see the performance put on for us by the endless varieties and colours of tiny, remarkably resilient wildflowers. The monastic town of New Norcia is worth including in your trip.

Summer is the time when Perth's famous beaches come into their own. Never crowded, the beaches attract people of all ages to swim, surf and chill out on the vast stretches of white sand. Locals often head over to our favourite holiday island in summer too. Rottnest Island is a short ferry ride from Fremantle, and a haven from the city buzz - a place where everyone walks or cycles, visiting crystal clear bays for snorkelling and boating.

Our port city of Fremantle is another must. Steeped in history, influenced by Italian culture, and popular with artists and musicians, Fremantle has quite a different vibe to neighbouring Perth. There are countless cafes, restaurants, art galleries and boutique stores, all nestled close to the harbour - you'll easily fill a day or more here.

Needless to say, with our strong Asian and European influences, great food and coffee are everywhere in Perth and Fremantle. Wine lovers will definitely want to visit the Swan Valley wineries, ideally by boat and bus! This is a great way to enjoy the freedom of wine tasting - enjoy a relaxing trip up the Swan River and let someone else do the driving. The valley is known for its local produce too, including olives, honey and grapes.

The Perth Hills

Our Perth & Surrounds tours focus mainly on the Perth Hills and foothills as the area closest to the city that offers fantastic walking, hiking and beautiful fresh air. We like to follow the Darling Scarp Zig Zag Scenic Drive, and explore several of the national parks and walk trails, with their pretty scenery, waterfalls and wildlife, including John Forrest National Park, Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, Serpentine National Park, Lesmurdie Falls Bush Walk, and of course the famous Bibbulmun Track.

The Bibbulmun is one of the world's great walk trails, starting at Kalamunda in the Perth Hills and meandering for almost 1,000km to Albany on the south coast. Cyclists enjoy getting up into the hills too, with the Munda Biddi Trail beaten just for them. This world class, off-road track is as long as the Bibbulmun, stretching from Mundaring to Albany, and the longest of its kind in the world.

Mundaring is a great place to visit and get your bearings. There are lots of picnic spots and walk trails around, as well as scenic Mundaring Weir and the Perth Hills Discovery Centre. Another 15 minutes' drive from Mundaring is a popular 'swimming hole', Lake Leschenaultia - a former railway damn that has been developed into a recreational lake.
